Conseils de nos experts :
The aquarium capable of receiving this fish will have a minimum volume of 300 liters, and must be relatively mature, well established and stable, because the Chelmon Rostratus, even if it is rather robust once well acclimatized, remains a delicate fish during the first months of his captive life. Subject to stress, Chelmon Rostratus can quickly deviate and/or develop an acute episode of cryptocaryon if the maintenance conditions are not suitable for its well-being. Cohabitations will be avoided with aggressive or too lively fish, or in an already overcrowded aquarium. Chelmon Rostratus needs to swim freely in the water column and around the decor without feeling threatened by territorial inclinations of other fish.
Once well established and at ease, Chelmon Rostratus spans the decor peacefully, in search of all the small prey that would be accessible to it: small anemones, verse, amphipods and other tiny crustaceans of the microfauna ... it unlocks them in the anfracuitions Rocks, with its long beak which is a highly specialized tool for this kind of task! He’s a gourmet, who needs to eat frequently. Ideally, it will therefore be provided two to three times a day with small meat foods: deflected foods such as artemias and mysis, lobster or fish eggs, chopped krill…; Or fine pellets or glitter, which he will generally accept quickly. The open bivalves (mold, shell) are a treat which he generally loves!
Towards most coral species and other invertebrates, the Chelmon Rostratus is Reef Safe, it is satisfied with the meat food distributions offered by its healer. Be aware, however, that the tubicoles and sabelles will not be safe with the Chelmon, which remains a butterfly fish after all! Likewise, small anemones will be consumed, which potentially means the colonies of Zoanthus, but also including pests of the Aiptasia or Majano type, which can be real good news for certain aquariophiles invaded by these plagues! Some individuals also show a propensity to tickle more or less frequently hard corals with large polyps (LPS), which can go as far as losing the strain of coral, especially if the species in question has small polyps (blastomussa , Acanthastrea…). To be completely quiet, favor SPS hard corals, gorgonians and soft corals with this fish. Also note that a hungry fish will be much more likely to seek its pitting on everything that will be available on the decor, and therefore to become aggressive towards corals. So good hearty meals are more than recommended to have a fish that remains very wise.
His average life expectancy is 8-10 years.
